Alex Boswell

A label found to the inside back of the first long drawer of a Campaign Chest, below, gives Boswell's addresses as 8 South Hanover Street and 40 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh.

It also lists a number of the items that Boswell sold including various India Trunks and Portmanteaus as well as domestic items such as House Brushes. Alex. Boswell also notes on his label that he has 'The Greatest Variety of Travelling Equipments in Scotland'. Another advert of 1882 noted that he was a Brush, Trunk, Portmanteau and Travelling Bag Manufacturer. Military, Indian & Marriage Outfitter who also took in part exchanges and repairs. The address given was 8 Hanover Street.

Boswell were established in 1790 and were still a family business 100 years later. They are known to have also had premises at 79 Hanover Street during their history and were prolific makers of excellent quality luggage.
