Cawnpore Tent Club Pith Helmet

£145.00

Category: Other Travel Items

Subcategory: Miscellaneous

A Cawnpore Tent Club Pith Helmet or Sun Hat with a quilted khaki cover and adjustable leather strap. The strap feeds through the side of the hat to extend over the top of the helmet and through the ventilation cap to the apex. The belts strap has a buckle for adjusting which can be seen to the side of the helmet.

The Cawnpore Tent Club helmet increased in popularity after the Prince of Wales visit to India in 1875 and by the end of the 19th century was used by the army for undress or fatigue duties. This example was made in Calcutta and the maker's name to the interior appears to be Osman Cuny & Bros. although the name is difficult to read.

This is a good example of a pith helmet, in good condition.

Sold without the hat stand.
