Camphor Wood Campaign Trunk

Category: Campaign Furniture

Subcategory: Trunks

A Chinese Export camphor wood Trunk with brass corners and strap work.

The corner brass work is a wider gauge than the straps and sit proud of the wood. The trunk has two locks and originally had a candle box to the right-hand side, now removed. The top has two small brass campaign handles set above the locks.

Throughout the 19th century camphor wood trunks were made in various sizes in the Chinese ports for sale to Westerners passing through on their way further east. This example is a good coffee table height and is from the late 19th Century.
