Brass Bound Campaign Toiletry Box

Category: Other Travel Items

Subcategory: Boxes

Made of mahogany, this Dressing Case has brass corners and straps to strengthen and protect it. The flush handles to the sides are an earlier form and the name plate, engraved J.R., has a good shape. The interior is lined in red leather with a bottle either side of a lidded compartment to the left and a lift out tray next to it.

The contents are now missing but it can be seen that the tray would have held razors, a strop and small bottles etc. Underneath the tray there is a large compartment behind 2 smaller ones that were lined in silvered paper. The lid interior has a hinged, padded board to cushion the contents of the tray and to hold a removable mirror, veneered in kingwood and with a lectern foot. Early to mid C19th.
